Welcome to the Center for Theoretical Biological Physics

The Center for Theoretical Biological Physics (CTBP) is one of the ten Physics Frontiers Centers established by the Physics Division (PHYS) of the National Science Foundation. CTBP is also sponsored by the Division of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences (MCB), with additional backing from the Division of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS) and the Division of Materials Research (DMR).

Collaborating Institutions

CTBP represents a collaborative effort between several prestigious institutions:

The administrative offices of CTBP are located on the campus of Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Research Focus

CTBP is at the forefront of research and training at the biology-physics interface, with a focus on the following key areas:

  1. Fundamentals of Physical Genetics
  2. Interacting Active Elements and Biological Functionality
  3. Integrated Living Systems
  4. Development of Core Methodology

These research areas encompass a broad spectrum of activities aimed at advancing our understanding of complex biological systems through the lens of physics.
