April 24, 2024
Boston, MA – The College of Science (COS) at Northeastern University hosted its annual COS Awards Ceremony on April 24, 2024, recognizing remarkable achievements by its faculty and students. Among the highlights of the event, Assistant Professor Michele Di Pierro from the Department of Physics, Northeastern University was awarded the COS Excellence in Research Award, an honor that celebrates recent research accomplishments within the COS community.
The COS Excellence in Research Award is designed to recognize unheralded research accomplishments by individual faculty members or faculty-led teams, with the intent to build capacity for external awards and foster collaboration. Each year, up to two awards are presented, each accompanied by a $1,000 prize.
This year’s recipient, Professor Di Pierro, was recognized for his innovative research that blends theoretical and computational analysis to unravel the mechanisms by which the 3D architecture of genomes influences their functioning. His pioneering work has provided significant insights into how the structure of genomes can impact their biological roles, paving the way for new discoveries in the field of genome biology. His work exemplifies the kind of innovative and collaborative research we aim to promote at COS, and we are proud to celebrate his accomplishments with this award.
The annual COS Awards Ceremony brings together faculty, staff, and students to honor outstanding contributions to research, teaching, and service. It reflects the university’s commitment to excellence in scientific discovery and underscores the important role of collaborative research in advancing knowledge across disciplines.
